The holiday time is upon us, and what better way to ring in the season than to come on down to the Rockville Centre Public Library on Tuesday, December 22nd, for the Finding Nemo Movie Night! As the title implies, we'll be showing Nemo after showing a special Christmas episode of The Simpsons!

Admission is free, and pizza will be served!

I attached a copy of the flier; send it to your friends!

Welcome Back!!

Hey everyone!!

After a quick summer vacation, here we find ourselves at school again. I hope everyone enjoyed the various and sundry summer activities that took place. American Idol was a tremendous success, and congratulations to Crystalyn Wynter, the 2009 American Idol Champ! For those who were there, it will be held again: likely in March or April, so more people can perform! We TAG-ers will be hard at work over the next few months to make this year as excellent as last year! Be sure to comment on the blog if you have any questions or...well...comments! Or feel free to e-mail us at iTag91@gmail.com We'll let you know as soon as we have a schedule for the next few months. Keep your ears open and this website bookmarked; it's going to be a fun year!!

And if you're free Mondays @ 7PM, stop by Kim's Corner for "The Paper"! After a successful summer run (our product, "Snippets of Summer" can be found at the library), we're continuing the program through December, and likely through the end of the year, and the summer...and so on, so forth!

Hope everyone's had a smooth transition from summer to school; where did the time go, anyway?!

That's all for now; remember to check for updates!!!

The show starts at 7 and will likely end somewhere between 9 and 9:15. Bring your friends, and don't forget: YOU pick the winner! That's right; we have 8 contestants ready to sing their hearts out and you vote for the contestant you like the best! Prizes go to the winner!

It's going to be a blast!!!!

American Idol Tryouts: Day 1

So we were a bit disarmed by how few people tried out today. Blame it on the Harry Potter premiere, I say.

Here's the one audition we did get: Jasmine Garcia singing "White Flag" by Dido:

HAPPY SUMMER!!!

So let the summer activities begin!
Wednesday July 1st: SummerStage. (aka our second annual Plugged/Unplugged). It'll be from 7-9:15. Admission is free!! (How can you resist that?)
Bands playing include Wilbur, Something Epic and many more!

And Starting July 15th, Open calls for American Idol begin!!

There are two other open calls the 22nd and 29th! Don't worry, only come to one! Bring a cd with the song you want to sing. If you e-mail me (at radicalbeeblebobble@yahoo.com) and tell me the song & artist, i'll probably be able to get you a karaoke version of the song (so you're not competing with the singer on the tape!)
The finale is August 5th, also at 7.

It's going to be a lot of fun! So don't miss either event!!

And Here's One Last Reminder!

The CD Drive has hit a bit of a snag. We need more album recommendations for CD Drive 08/09!!

Here's the link to the original post I made about this:

http://rvcpltag.blogspot.com/2008/11/cd-drive-08.html

It's got a long list of albums and artists. E-mail me at iTag91@gmail.com with albums YOU want at the library!

There's still time; don't miss out! :D

Book Discussion Time!

Have you recently read a book that you just HAVE to talk about? Well, here's your outlet! E-mail us at iTag91@gmail.com with a book review! Be sure to include its TAG (Title Author & Genre), a little summary without giving too much away, and who you'd recommend the book to.

Here's an example:

The Edible Woman
By Margaret Atwood
Fiction

I just finished reading prolific author Margaret Atwood's first novel, The Edible Woman. The novel follows Marian McAlpin, and her impending marriage to Peter Wollander and how she gradually loses her sense of self before realizing that she must get it back. Atwood gives the novel a unique twist by manifesting Marian's loss of self in an inability to eat. Marian begins to attribute human qualities to almost all food put in front of her, refusing to partake in what she deems cannibalism. Considering the book was published in 1969 and written a few years before, Atwood proves to be years ahead of her time when addressing issues such as feminism and the patriarchal society Marian lives in. I'd definitely recommend this book to teens grades 10 or above. It's a quick read but it's certainly worth it!

Now your turn! :D

Aforementioned Summertime Merriment!!

We TAG-ers have been hard at work planning loads of summertime activities, all to be held at your very own library! We're going to kick things off with a bang with SummerStage (gotta love the alliteration) on Tuesday July 1st. Think of last year's Plugged/Unplugged, but with a different name. And it's in summer. If it's half as good as last year, get ready for some fantastic performances!

Yours truly will be teaching a Journalism class this summer as well, which I'm very excited about (if you couldn't tell by the excessive/obsessive use of LOLCats!). That'll be on Tuesday nights from July 7th to August 11th. Think MTV's The Paper, but better! :D

Ok let's calm down (a little..)

There will also likely be an art class taught by another resident TAG-er, Steve Maher. Dates and times are TBD. Steve's a great artist so it's sure to be a great experience for anyone who wants to partake. For lack of a better explanation, here's what the class may look like:

And finally, what better way to end a summer at the library with the Rockville Centre Public Library's own American Idol. We're planning to gather some of RVC's most talented teens and you, the audience, pick the winner! That is scheduled for August 5th.

You definitely don't want to miss any of these events, so mark your calendars now!!! =D

Let's Pretend It Hasn't Been 2 Months...

...since I last posted! But what can I say? February was a bit of a slow month. The teens came together once before President's Week Break to make some Sweet Treats with little kids! Everyone had a lot of fun, and we're definitely going to do something like that again, so don't be bummed if you missed out!

The next big TAG-sponsored event is "Book Swap" on Saturday, March 28th. Teens can come bring in books they'd like to trade, and for every book they bring, they get to bring a different book home! What better way to get into some new books and talk about what you've read (I'll get into that later...)

After that, it seems like we'll all be looking forward to the summer, and all the summertime merriment the Rockville Centre Public Library has to offer!

New & Exciting Events!

2009 is already underway, and the TAG-ers have been hard at work planning upcoming events to make this year even better than last year!

On February 6th at 4 PM, we'll be hosting a Sweet Treats Event for young kids. Sign up at the library if you wish to volunteer to be a helper!!

On February 9th, the first meeting of the Rockville Centre Public Library's Review Crew will be taking place. All are welcome: especially if you love to write! Participants will be writing book reviews and anything in the venue of creative writing. Express Yourself!*

*That wasn't subliminal advertising this year's summer theme at the library at all...*

Also in the next few months, there will be a Book Swap, where teens will get to bring in books, and trade them with other books brought in. It'll be a great way to read new books, and share books you like with others!

That brings us into the Summer!! It's just around the corner, and we have plenty of things lined up for summer already! Stay tuned...:)

It's Gonna Be A Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, All! The Tina Fey Movie Night was loads of fun. Plenty of laughs throughout. Attendance wasn't spectacular, but perhaps there were more people on vacation than we anticipated! No worries if you couldn't make it, we have plenty of fun things coming down the pike for 2009!

Next meeting is on Thursday, January 8th, which means I'll have oodles of updates next weekend! If something comes up before then, there will be updates earlier than that, for sure.

Again, Happy New Year! :D
